Smugglers
folly
Location:
The north edge of the large western bay of
Tenasserim Island.
Average
depth: 16m (53ft) Maximum depth: 30m (100ft)
This
bay was hiding place in the 17th century for
pirates intercepting ships on their approach
to Mergui harbour, and the allure of lost booty
makes it an intriguing dive.
Local
marine life includes Blue-ring Angelfish, Moorish
Idols, Yellow-lined Snappers, and Bicolour
and Bullhead Parrotfish, while blue-spotted
ribbontail rays can be seen gliding over the
coral substrate bottom.
