Burma
liveaboard diving and sea kayaking with MV Faah -Yai
|
Burma
liveaboard diving. The MV Faah Yai was
built in 1996 as a private dive yacht,
and converted in 1998 to a liveaboard
diving vessel.
She is designed
for diving and adventure
tours in Burma's remote Mergui Archipelago.
We
purchased her in June 1999, with the
intention to run Myanmar diving only
cruises, the advantages are obvious,
direct access via Ranong, shorter cruising
times, more dives, less stress and the
advantage of sailing further North (Cabusa
islands) then any other MV currently
operating from Phuket.
|

|
The
pictures here will give you an idea of
the boat.
|
|
The
bridge is set up with all the necessary
navigation equipment.
Faah
Yai has 2 engines, each with its own
drive system (i.e. separate gearboxes,
drive shafts and propellers).
The
port and starboard engines are 315 hp
and are used for daytime cruising. For
electrical power she has 2 independent
generators.For
tank filling there are 2 Coltri Sub compressors
below deck.
|
|
Faah
Yai's layout allows her to accommodate
10 to 12 guests in 5 en-suite cabins.
There
is a choice of the master cabin (front
end of the main deck), 3 other double
cabins (can be turned into triples or
as twins), and 1 twin cabin.
The
Salon is equipped with TV, Video Entertainment
and much more.
Separate
crew quarters for the 2 dive instructors & 5
Thai crew are at the upper deck.
|
|
 |
This is the
style of toilet/shower for each cabin
on Faah Yai ,similar to that you would
find in your own home.
This will be
a basic philosophy on Faah Yai, home
from home. Faah Yai is a wooden boat
and we exposed the natural wood as much
as possible.
It is either
lacquered, where grip is not a necessity,
or oiled where the grain is needed to
provide grip.
The cabins and
dining area are carpeted.
