dive coursesScuba Quest Dive Center KamalaOpen Water Diver

As your PADI Dive Centre in Kamala we are offering you the full range of dive courses from our training facility on the beach at Kamala Bay. We do most of our basic training there but we also offer courses on our Liveaboard vessels

These courses give you the opportunity to join in one of the most fun recreational activities available. You will get the chance to see some of the most incredible sights you will see anywhere on earth, and experience some of the most wonderful feelings you could ever expect. The marine world is awesome in its magnificence.

They can also give you college credit in the USA, and in the UK they have been accepted as part of the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme (http://www.sonnet.co.uk/dea)The prices below are standardized. We frequently have special offers for groups, clubs, for advance payments, for more than one course, for booking more than one cruise, so please contact us with your requests at info@scuba-quest.de.

We believe in customizing the course for the individual, or group, in order to suit your preferences and so maximize your enjoyment & fulfillment. All the courses include the loan of reference/educational material, with the exception of the Medic First Aid Student Kit , and the materials for the Divemaster course & above.

From June to August courses are available either from a day boat, or on our Liveaboard. From October to May there is also the option of beach dives from the shore.

Beach dives tend to be the cheapest option & involve the least time. Liveaboards offer the best value for money and some of the best diving. Day boats mean being back on land each night but tend to take a whole day (ie leave hotel at 0700 hrs & return at about 1700 hrs) for 2 or 3 dives. The choice is yours.

Discover SCUBA Diving

This is where you can get your first real taste of diving. This is a 1 day course that covers the basics of SCUBA diving. It allows you to dive with a PADI Dive Master, or higher (i.e Assistant Instructor, Instructor) for up to 2 weeks following the course to a maximum depth of 12 m. Minimum age is 12 years old

The course involves Instructor led discussions about the equipment you will be using, what to expect under water, some communication techniques, and some safety knowledge. Following this you will practice the things you have discussed in shallow water (ie about chest deep) and get familiar with the equipment, and the sensation of breathing underwater. You will try a few simple maneuvers and once you are comfortable with this the Instructor will take you for a dive around our local reef.

This course is usually conducted from the beach at Kamala.

What you do in this course can be credited towards the next level, SCUBA Diver, but is not a prerequisite.

Scuba Diver

This is a 2 to 3 day course that covers more of the knowledge and experience that you require to become a certified diver. It allows you to dive with a PADI Dive Master, or higher, for an unlimited time following the course up to a maximum depth of 12 m. Minimum age is 12 years old.

In this course you spend more time discussing how you interact with the water, your equipment, communication underwater, the marine environment, and, best of all, more time in the water (the whole point of the exercise!). You will do more dives practicing the new things you have discussed either in a pool or in a confined water area (less then 2 m deep just off the beach), before doing 2 open water dives where you get the chance to show what you know.

This course is also usually done from the beach at Kamala, but you also have the option to go out on a boat to see some different dive sites for the last 2 dives.

What you do on this course can be credited towards the next level, Open Water Diver, but is not a prerequisite.

Open Water Diver

This is the first level at which you become a certified diver and are allowed to dive with other PADI Open Water Divers, or higher, and has no expire time (except of course your own common sense & experience!). Once you are qualified and if you have not dived for a while it may be worth considering the SCUBA Review as a refresher (but we are jumping ahead of ourselves a little!)

You do not have to have done either the Discover SCUBA Diving course or SCUBA Diver course to take this one.

This course takes 3 to 4 days, about 1 day of this is land based and the rest is water based, and at the end you are a certified diver and permitted to dive up to a recommended maximum depth of 18 m. This course covers all the skills you need to enable you to dive without the necessity for a professional diver (ie Dive Master or higher) to accompany you when you dive.

The course starts with some discussions followed by some dives in either a pool or in calm shallow water ( no more than 1.5-2 m) just off the beach. These discussions will involve your equipment, breathing air under water, what you will see & feel, how to communicate under water, the marine environment. There is some reading involved and some quizzes to help you retain the information. This is an important part of the course because this information is all related to your, & your dive buddy's, safety. The important thing to remember is that the course will progress at a pace that you choose. The last 2 days of the course are taken up with 4 open water dives, these could be from the beach, from a day boat, or from the Liveaboard. These dives are your chance to show what you know.

Diving is about fun, excitement, adventure & novel experiences, and in order for you to get the best of this you need to feel comfortable & confident in the water. We (that is, you & us) achieve this together by combining our experience & knowledge, your desire for a new experience, practical dive skills, & dive theory so that you understand what is going on, have faith in yourself & your equipment & feel safe in a completely new environment.

Minimum age 12 years old.

SCUBA Review

This is a one day refresher course for those of you who have not dived for a while & feel that your skills maybe a bit rusty!

Advanced Open Water Diver

This is the next stage in your diving adventure. What you learn on this course will make you a more capable, knowledgeable & safer diver, which really means that you will get more everything (fun, excitement, adventure, enjoyment, satisfaction, pleasure........) from your diving.

This course takes 2 days and involves the usual discussions & quizzes followed by practical experience. There are 2 Core Dives that must be done, these are the Underwater Navigation & the Deep Dive. After this you have 3 Electives to choose from a wide range. We usually recommend the Night Dive & Multilevel Dive for 2 of the Electives, and leave the last one totally for you to choose. We recommend these 2 because they cover aspects of diving that you are likely to encounter on a regular basis. Most dives are multilevel, so it is useful to understand what is happening, and night diving is one of the best reasons to be a diver, it really is one of the most incredible experiences you can have.

Navigation: using the compass, and how to use natural methods of navigation.

Deep dive: 18-30 m in training, allows you to dive to 40 m afterwards. What to expect at depth.

Night dive: the differences of diving in the dark with a torch, communications, different marine life.

Multilevel: up to now your training has assumed you get in, go straight down, go along & come up. By now you know that you don't do this but generally go to a depth, come up a bit shallower & so on.

Any of the dives you do on this course can be credited towards a Specialty course.

Minimum age 12 years old.

Medic First Aid Course

This a multi-use first aid course, i.e. it is not purely related to diving, but is applicable to all areas of life. When taught by a MFA Instructor diving examples are used in order to have relevance to the subject at hand. Dive specific first aid is covered in the Rescue Diver course. This takes 1 day.

Rescue Diver

This is where you change from being a "me" diver to a "we" diver. This course is great fun (especially for us instructors!) and takes 2-3 days. It covers all aspects of safety & rescue, re-covering some of the self-rescue techniques you have already learnt, and then going onto techniques for rescuing others, emergency management, basic first aid & rescue situations (we recommend that this course is taken in conjunction with the Medic First Aid course, if you do not already have a valid First Aid certificate). Minimum age 12 years old.

If you are not sure about taking this course, talk to anyone who has and we are sure that they will tell that they felt a lot more confident & comfortable as a result of it, despite having plenty of diving experience. This course has a lot of very useful knowledge, that can be applied in many different situations.

Master SCUBA Diver

This is the ultimate in PADI recreational diving qualifications. You need to be have a PADI Advanced or Advanced Plus & PADI Rescue Diver & 5 Specialty ratings to apply.

Dive Master

This is the first step on the ladder to a career as a dive professional. This course requires at least 3 weeks, plus you are required to buy all the educational materials, and generally have your own equipment as well. That's the down side.

The up side is that this course is a huge amount of fun! There is a certain amount of study involved that covers pretty much everything you need to know about dive theory (if you go on to do your instructors course, you will find out that you do no more), apart from that this course is purely a practical application of the skills you have already developed, with the emphasis being on your ability to communicate & teach these skills to other divers.

You will spend most of your time in the water with an instructor learning how to demonstrate skills, lead a dive, make a dive plan, map a dive site, give a dive brief, plus the cost includes a Liveaboard trip with the chance to learn how to work as a Divemaster on a Liveaboard.

The price starts at 25.000,-TB for the course. If you need to purchase, or rent, equipment we can arrange this for you at discounted prices. For a complete breakdown of costs (manuals, PADI certification & membership fees) please contact us at info@scuba-quest.de
